About Us

Our Story

In third grade, our reading scores were low.

We were both afraid of speaking in front of the class.

We knew we had to do something.

One afternoon at lunch, our dad shared an idea. That idea later became Fable Friendships.

He explained how reading with seniors could help us grow as readers while also bringing joy and connection to others.

At first, we weren’t sure.

How could two kids connect with seniors just by reading together?

It didn’t seem possible.

But we tried.

With encouragement from our dad, the enrichment director (Scott), and the seniors who listened to us despite our little hiccups, we kept going.

We’ve been going ever since.

Now, it’s one of the most anticipated parts of our week.

  • Fable Friendships is all about sharing stories together.
  • Kids read books and share stories with seniors.
  • There is no performing and no pressure.
  • We read, talk, laugh, and spend time together.
  • We learn from one another.
  • All you need is a love for stories and a willingness to try.

  • Fable Friendships has helped us become more confident readers and speakers.
  • It has also helped us build real friendships with the seniors we read with.
  • We want more kids and more seniors to experience this too.
  • We hope kids can grow in confidence, and seniors can feel happy, included, and excited each week.
  • We believe stories can bring people together in a special way.
