HOW IT STARTED

When we started Fable Friendships in June 2024, we thought we were simply reading books and spending time with seniors.

Over the past two years, we discovered something much bigger.

We discovered friendship.

BY THE NUMBERS

90 Wednesday afternoons

110+ books shared

8 multimedia presentations

24 resident surveys

2 years of weekly commitment

Countless stories, smiles, and conversations

THE SIGNAL IS UNWAVERING

From 7 resident surveys in Year One to 17 in Year Two, the message remained remarkably consistent:

• “You can depend on them. They help me. It is a happy place”
• “Being together & enjoy the stories the girls have read to us”
• “I enjoy the friendships and look forward to weekly meetings”
• “Because the way they are, how they are growing up & I forget my problems”
• It is really cool because the kids start growing before your eyes”

WHAT WE LEARNED

Through Fable Friendships, we became more confident readers, writers, and speakers.

Along the way, we discovered that:

• Friendship has no expiry date.

• Every person has a story.

• Imperfection creates memories.

• Friendship cannot be measured.

• Communities become families.

WHAT OUR PARENTS DISCOVERED

Our parents originally hoped that we would become better readers and communicators.

Instead, they discovered patience, resilience, and a renewed appreciation for aging and the present moment.

Most surprisingly, they came to see longevity not as something to fear, but as something to sincerely hope for.

BEYOND THE NUMBERS

Numbers tell part of the story.

But how do you measure friendship?

How do you quantify encouragement, laughter, or the wisdom shared after a book, a game, or a simple question?

Some of life’s greatest gifts resist measurement.

A DISCOVERY STILL EVOLVING

What began as a small experiment became a discovery that changed all of us.

We hope its gradual evolution touches lives far beyond this room.
