Lace and Laughs: Summer Saturdays at the Ridgefield Station Knitting Club 2026

Every Saturday afternoon, the art room at Ridgefield Station transforms into a workshop of bright yarn, clicking needles, and shared laughter. When my sister and I first walked into the room, we didn’t even know how to hold a pair of knitting needles. We were complete beginners, navigating a brand-new skill.

But over the past couple of weeks, our clumsy stitches began to steady.

We started small, focusing on knitting individual squares. It didn’t feel like much at first, but our instructor, Helen, guided our group of fifteen friends with endless patience. Week after week, those separate squares began to multiply.

Soon, Helen began crocheting them together, weaving our individual efforts into one massive, colorful blanket. Seeing the final result was absolutely lovely—a literal tapestry of the time we spent together.

Once the final knot was tied, Helen surprised us all. To celebrate the completion of the project, she had knitted individual hats for every single person who contributed a square.

Then, we started to make the American flag and our excitement was growing (picture above). We just took a group photo gathered around our finished blanket, and we are holding our breath hoping to see our smiles featured in the Ridgefield Press newspaper very soon. Until then, we will be right back in the art room next Saturday, ready for the next story to begin.
